When adding items to a purchase order, ALIX automatically determines the applicable tax on each line. The tax can then be modified manually, and carries over to bills created from the purchase order.<\/p>\n

Automatic tax on lines<\/h2>\n

When an item is added to a purchase order, ALIX automatically assigns a tax to the line based on the following priority:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Vendor tax<\/strong>: if the vendor has a tax defined, it is applied and always takes priority over other rules.<\/li>\n
  2. Tax by region<\/strong>: if the vendor does not have a tax defined, ALIX determines the tax based on the applicable address and the tax by region configuration.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Address used based on delivery mode<\/h3>\n

    The address used to determine the tax by region depends on the delivery mode selected on the purchase order:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
    Standard<\/td>\nThe purchase order address (Shipping address<\/strong>\u00a0section).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Drop shipping<\/td>\nThe recipient customer’s address.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Vendor pickup<\/td>\nThe vendor’s address.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

    Tax by region cascade<\/h3>\n

    Based on the applicable address, ALIX looks for a configured tax in this order:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. The specific region matching the country and province of the address (e.g. Canada \u2014 Quebec).<\/li>\n
    2. The country region with all provinces (e.g. Canada \u2014 All provinces).<\/li>\n
    3. The default region (All countries \u2014 All provinces).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      The first tax found is applied. If no tax is configured at any level, the line has no tax.<\/p>\n

      Note: for the cascade to work, the\u00a0Province<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Country<\/strong>\u00a0fields of the address must be filled in. If either of these fields is missing, the address is not taken into account.\u00a0Learn more about address management and synonyms<\/a>.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

      Modify the tax on lines<\/h2>\n

      The automatically assigned tax can be modified manually on each line.<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. From the menu on the left, choose\u00a0Purchases -> Purchase orders<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      2. Open the desired purchase order, then click\u00a0Edit<\/strong>\u00a0in the top right.

      3. On the desired line, click the\u00a0Tax<\/strong>\u00a0field and select the desired tax.
        \n\"\"<\/li>\n
      4. Click\u00a0Save<\/strong>\u00a0in the top right when you are done.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Bulk edit the tax<\/h3>\n
          \n
        1. In edit mode, select the desired lines.<\/li>\n
        2. Click\u00a0Bulk edit<\/strong>\u00a0in the action bar.\n

        3. Select the tax to apply, then confirm.\n

          Note<\/strong>: the bulk edit applies the same tax to all selected lines.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

          Carry over to bills<\/h2>\n

          When a bill is created from a purchase order, each purchase order line’s tax is carried over as the default on the corresponding bill line. The tax remains editable on the bill.<\/p>\n
