It is the tab displayed by default when opening an item.<\/p>\n<p>Three toggles \u2014 <strong>Sold<\/strong>, <strong>Manufactured<\/strong> and <strong>Purchased<\/strong> \u2014 control the display of the <strong>Sale<\/strong>, <strong>Production<\/strong> and <strong>Purchase<\/strong> tabs (see the <a href=\"#main-information\">Main information<\/a> section).<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"main-information\">Main information<\/h2>\n<p>This section gathers the item&#8217;s basic identification, its type, its units of measure and the toggles that determine its uses.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alix.ai\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/general-tab-main-information.webp\" alt=\"General tab \u2014 main information\" \/><\/p>\n<table>\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th>Field<\/th>\n<th>Description<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Group<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Links the item to an item group. When a group is selected, several fields are defined by the group and locked in the item record. See the <a href=\"https:\/\/alix.ai\/documentation\/en\/doc\/items\/item-groups\/\">Item groups<\/a> page.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Description (French)<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Item&#8217;s main description (max. 200 characters). Used by default in documents (sales orders, purchase orders) when no specific description is entered there.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Description (English)<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Item&#8217;s description in the secondary language (max. 200 characters).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Item type<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Nature of the item: <strong>Good<\/strong>, <strong>Service<\/strong>, <strong>Custom service<\/strong> or <strong>Tool<\/strong>. The type is chosen when the item is created and cannot be changed afterwards. The <strong>Tool<\/strong> type displays the <strong>Tool<\/strong> tab (see the <a href=\"https:\/\/alix.ai\/documentation\/en\/doc\/items\/tool-tab\/\">Tool tab<\/a> page).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Inventory management type<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Determines how stock is tracked: <strong>Quantity and value<\/strong>, <strong>Quantity only<\/strong> or <strong>Not managed<\/strong>. Chosen when the item is created. See the <a href=\"https:\/\/alix.ai\/documentation\/en\/doc\/items\/inventory-management\/\">Inventory management<\/a> page.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Unit of measure<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>The item&#8217;s measure type (<strong>Standard<\/strong>, <strong>Weight<\/strong>, <strong>Length<\/strong>, <strong>Surface<\/strong> or <strong>Volume<\/strong>) and its corresponding unit.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Unit weight<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Weight of one unit of the item.
