ALIX is compatible with Zebra label printers. This page covers the installation of the required software, browser configuration, and troubleshooting common issues.
Prerequisites #
Before beginning the installation, make sure that:
- The Zebra printer is connected to your computer.
- The ribbons and labels have been installed in the printer.
- You are using Google Chrome (recommended).
Install the Zebra driver #
- Open the following link https://www.zebra.com/us/en/support-downloads/printer-software/printer-setup-utilities.html
- Scroll down to Zebra Printer Setup Utilities for Windows.
- Click the DOWNLOAD button under the FILES section.

- Launch the installer.
- Click Next.
- Accept the terms of use and click Next.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Confirm that you have read the information and click Next.
- Check the first box to open Zebra Setup Utilities and click Finish.
- Click Install New Printer.
- Click Next.
- Click Install Printer.
- Select your printer model (for the ZD220 choose ZDesigner ZD220-203dpi ZPL) and click Next.
If the following interface appears, click Cancel and close Zebra Setup Utilities.
Install Zebra Browser Print #
Zebra Browser Print is the software that allows ALIX (in your browser) to communicate with the Zebra printer.
- Open the following link: https://alix-installation-files.s3.ca-central-1.amazonaws.com/ZebraBrowserPrintSetup-1.2.1.279.exe
- Start the installation.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Click Install.
- Once the installation is complete, open the following link to validate the connection: https://localhost:9101/ssl_support
If an error message appears, refer to the Troubleshooting section below.
- A security message appears, click Advanced and click Proceed to localhost.
- The following page confirms that Zebra Browser Print is working correctly.
Google Chrome: Allow access to the local network #
If you are using Google Chrome, you must enable local network access in the browser settings for ALIX to detect your printer.
- Open Chrome’s Settings, go to Privacy and security, and then Site settings.

- Click “smart.alix.ai” in Recent Activity, or by clicking View permissions and data stored across sites.

- Find the Local network access and choose Allow.

Test printing #
You can now use your printer in ALIX.
On your first print, a window will open asking if you allow https://smart.alix.ai/ to access the printer. Click Allow.
To validate that everything is working, run a test print from one of these locations:
- Print an inventory label in the Inventories module.
- Print a card label in the Operations board.
- Print a location label in Settings -> Warehouses and locations.
Troubleshooting #
| Symptom | Probable cause | Solution |

The localhost:9101 page does not open | The Zebra Browser Print application is not running | Make sure Zebra Browser Print appears on the taskbar. If not, launch the application from the Windows Start menu.
